Andrew Brandon

Head of Senior School

It is my third year in the Western Cape and I have enjoyed everything that makes the Cape a special place to live. I have been teaching for the past 14 years across the State in both remote and regional centres. My teaching background is in Human Movement Studies and Manual Arts but more recently I have been the Head of Vocational Education at the Weipa Campus and continue to maintain a strong school industry link.

It’s an exciting time to lead the Senior School at Western Cape College as we continue to show the way in providing the students of the Western Cape with the necessary skills to engage in today’s world. With new Queensland Government initiatives in the Senior Phase of schooling, we are proud to say that Western Cape College has met these challenges head on and has provided leadership in reform implementation. These practices have enabled the College to:

  • Meet the needs of young people today whilst preparing for the future;
  • Be flexible in the delivery of curriculum; and
  • Meet the expectations of the community, employers, universities and training providers.

Western Cape College has made a serious commitment to providing positive pathways for our graduating students. The Service Guarantee for Senior Schooling clearly states that graduating students at Western Cape College will be provided one of three pathways:

  • OP Tertiary Entrance (University)
  • Vocational training / Apprenticeship, or
  • Full time employment

Along with this commitment comes a variety of support structures that will guide the students through the pathway of the Senior Phase of Schooling. This pathway has been outlined in the SET (Senior Education and Training) plan process which will steer each student toward their future goals. The Year 10 students at Weipa Campus have been working with staff and parents to complete SET plans for 2007.

We are very proud of our student and school successes and look forward to continuing our partnership with parents and community.
